2nd Roundtable of Wetland City Mayors

8-10 June 2023

2nd Roundtable of Wetland City Mayors

During Ramsar COP14, 25 local governments from 13 countries were officially recognized as Wetland Cities. These new Wetland Cities now join the total list of 43 globally
accredited local governments with strong advocacy for wetlands from 17 countries. Following the first Mayors’ Roundtable, the Ramsar Regional Center – East Asia
(RRC-EA) and Amiens City Government are organizing the 2nd Roundtable of Wetland City Mayors to be held on 8-10 June 2023 in Amiens, France.

The meeting will feature two days of technical and policy level discussions, and a one-day field trip to Baie de Somme, co-organized by the Conseil Départemental de la
Somme. Baie de Somme is one of the Ramsar Sites in France and a major wetland in the Hauts-de-France region. Mayors and officials of Wetland Cities will also have
the opportunity to review the existing Terms of Reference of the Wetland City Network and adopt the first Wetland City Network Strategic Plan.

The proposed Wetland City Network Strategic Plan supports the Ramsar Strategic Plan and aims to provide a framework that will guide Wetland Cities in implementing
the Convention on Wetlands at the local level. It highlights five strategic objectives and 15 targets focusing on communication, knowledge exchange, cooperation,
resourcing, and implementation. The draft strategic plan will cover the period of six years or the equivalent of two cycles of the Meeting of the Conference of the
Contracting Parties to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar COP).
